FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INVESTORS, ENTREPRENEURS AND TECHNOLOGY
EXECUTIVES CONVENE TO DISCUSS WAYS TO
‘REBOOT’ THE REGION’S TECH ECONOMY

Final agenda and speaker list for September technology conference now available at www.futureforward.com

BOSTON, August 12, 2002 – Future Forward Events LLC, organizer of the Future Forward and Nantucket Conferences, today released the final agenda and speaker details for its Future Forward 2002 conference. Future Forward, an invitation-only event that brings together technology executives, investors and entrepreneurs from throughout New England for shared dialogue and networking, is being held September 26-28, 2002 at the Cranwell Resort in Lenox, MA.

"Future Forward was started to help raise the profile of New England’s tech sector -- relative to our cohorts out in Silicon Valley -- and forge connections between the technology innovators in our area,” said Shayne Gilbert, co-chair of Future Forward 2002. “Now, with the region’s tech sector in a very slow growth phase, the central focus of the event this year will be the ideas, new developments, and strategies that can ‘reboot’ the tech sector. We’re going to talk about what it will take to restore momentum, get companies growing again, and start creating new jobs.”

Speakers and moderators recently added to the agenda include:

  • Hassan Ahmed, CEO of publicly-traded telecom firm Sonus Networks
  • Doug Field, VP of Product Management at Segway LLC, maker of the Segway Human Transporter
  • David Lederman, CEO of artificial heart innovator Abiomed
  • David Lewis, CIO of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Abbie Lundberg, Editor-in-chief of CIO Magazine
  • Carl Yankowski, chairman of GeoPhoenix and former CEO of Palm Computing and Sony Electronics

Topics to be explored include:

  • “The State of the New England Tech Economy”
  • “Where the Smart Money Is: Understanding Today’s Financial Markets and Investment Dynamics”
  • “Inside the Mind of the CIO (and CEO): Designing Strategies, Deploying New Technologies, Controlling Costs, Creating Advantage”
  • Demo sessions on “The Future of Mobility”, “The Future of Networks,” “The Future of Customization,” and “The Future of the Printed Page”

Conference Preview Chat: At noon on Friday, September 6th, conference speakers Doug Field of Segway LLC and futurist Thornton May of Toffler Associates, along with program chair Scott Kirsner, a technology columnist for the Boston Globe, will participate in an online chat on Boston.com to preview this year’s Future Forward agenda and answer questions. Chat will be accessible from www.boston.com.

The complete Future Forward agenda and speaker list are available online at http://www.futureforward.com/agenda.html. All speaker and agenda items are subject to change.
