Clayton
Christensen, Harvard Business School professor and popular
author, to discuss impact of disruptive technologies at
upcoming Future Forward 2004
PORTSMOUTH,
N.H., Oct. 7, 2004 ¾
Clayton Christensen, noted author and Harvard Business
School professor, will discuss the societal impact of
disruptive technologies at the upcoming Future Forward
Conference on October 14.
Christensen
is one of the business world’s most sought-after
speakers. He is considered the leading authority on
innovation management and disruptive innovation. He has
published two popular business books – “The
Innovator’s Dilemma” (1997) and “The
Innovator’s Solution” (2003). A third book, “Seeing
What’s Next” (2004), was published earlier this
fall.
“The
same phenomena that annihilated the region’s
minicomputer companies is striking again,” Christensen
said. “Disruptive technologies are reshaping health
care, the software industry, our colleges and universities
and telecom carriers. Doctors are being commoditized,
corporate universities are leaping ahead of traditional
institutions of higher learning and long standing business
models are crumbling. What happened to our banking
institutions – intense consolidation – is occurring
again. We all need to understand what is happening and be
ready.”
Christensen
will lead an active dialogue entitled “A Conversation
About Change” at Future Forward ’04. Moderating the
discussion will be Joost Bonsen, host of “Tech Fever”
and former lead organizer of MIT’s $50K competition.
Clayton
Christensen is the Robert and Jane Cizik Professor of
Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He
holds a bachelor’s degree with highest honors from
Brigham Young University; a master’s of philosophy
degree in applied econometrics from Oxford University; and
master’s and doctoral degrees in business administration
from Harvard Business School. His illustrious career
includes chairman and president of Ceramics Process
Systems Corporation, project manager for the Boston
Consulting Group, and White House Fellow, where he served
as assistant to U.S. Transportation Secretaries Drew Lewis
and Elizabeth Dole. Before beginning his business career,
Professor Christensen was a missionary for the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Republic of Korea
and speaks fluent Korean. He and his wife Christine are
the parents of five children.
